The oldest pub in Putney Town
Built in 1826 as the Watermans, the ‘Brick’ as it is affectionately known can proudly claim to be the oldest pub in Putney. The handsome red bricked exterior had been soldiering on in a difficult challenging climate for some time, and half of it was a construction site when Chris, well-acquainted with the pub scene since childhood as his Irish family ran a pub in North London, decided to take it over. The assignment was significant, as the refurbishment occurred during the COVID19 pandemic restrictions and with very little funding. Thanks to fantastic support from the locals, a crowdfunding campaign, and selling takeaways throughout that time, the team finally managed to renovate the hostelry keeping its spirit alive while adding their own touch. The result is stunning, and you can expect to find a classic London boozer with the warm feel of a family pub in Ireland. Kudos to them for such an achievement!
Wondering about the Bricklayers Arms USP? Look up!
A publican with Irish heritage wouldn’t be complete without a fantastic Guinness, and the Bricklayers Arms certainly respects the traditions from the old country! Not into the black stuff? Fear not, as the beer selection will leave you salivating, proudly serving up with a rotating variety of nine cask ales from independent breweries. No wonder the ceiling is covered with hundreds of beer mats - these ones won’t get you free beers, though!
